237- My year in photos

It's been a year. A BIG year since I last blogged. I stopped blogging 1 year ago because I was busy, I was unmotivated, and this brand new awesome camera held me back. (It is not as easy to snap a photo when carrying around a 2 lb camera as it was with something that fit in my pocket). To sum it up I was preoccupied. I had a wedding to plan, a puppy to train (yes a puppy- given that my last entry spoke of the stinky, hairy dog lovers and how I am not one of THOSE people... I am now one of those people), I had a job to end and a job to begin.

Last February I paused blogging to live life without documenting. It was hard to write this without photos to remind me of what my year was. Three big events stand out. Three events that someone would want at least 6 months each to get accustomed to them and I managed to complete them all in a short 6 month period.

In May we decided on a whim to purchase a 12 lb, furry cuddle bug who would over time turn into a 140 lb monster of a St. Bernard. We saw him because my cousin was getting his sister. We fell in love and on the drive home debated whether this was something we should do. It took 20 minutes and we agreed- we needed him. Two weeks later we drove back to my hometown to bring him to his new home. He cried for the first 20 minutes- at about the same place we had decided we needed him, he settled down slept in a tiny ball on my lap for the remainder of the drive. He is now 10 months old and over 110 lbs. He still likes to curl up on my lap and although he sheds buckets full of hair and he stinks at times, we love him. Mac was not in our plans but this past year showed me plans are made to be changed.

In June I left a job I had been at for 5 years. I rarely speak of work on the Internet. I feel it is unprofessional and I would never want to jeopardize my career because of something I wrote on a blog/social network, etc. Leaving was something neither the employer nor I wanted to do- but when you work with children, if there are not enough children, staff are not needed. I still miss my coworkers, I still miss the families and I still visit. I moved onto a new job, same profession- different location. I love it as I did the other. It showed me I could do it, I had learned a lot and I learned I can do what I want to do anywhere. It's been an easy transition because of the similarities in the job itself, but changing jobs is difficult and when you add it to wedding planning and puppy training- I had a lot on my plate!

On November 13th, 2010 Mr. Baseball and I tied the knot. It was just 2 weeks after our 9 year anniversary. It was middle of November in Halifax, Nova Scotia and we had sunny skies, 18 degree Celsius weather and enough luck and love on our side to fill an ocean.

Beginning in February we were making final plans to our wedding. Remember I learned over the years that plans were made to be changed? Between February and October our planned venue, baker, groomsmen, bridesmaids, florist changed. We had been left hanging, told 'no' and let down for a variety of reasons that we understood and could not hold against anyone however one wrench thrown into planning was one thing, multiple was another. We were told by friends and family that a fall wedding would not be possible with all the changes to our plans. Instead of the original plan of our marriage happening October 17th, 2010, we took the one available Saturday at our new venue- November 13th. "The 13th, is it a Friday?", "A November wedding, it usually snows in November, people won't be able to make it to Halifax.", and "You won't be able to have it outdoors." were the most common reactions when we announced our date. Now if you were not a believer in 'Everything happens for a reason.' I would like to tell you that October 17th, 2010 was overcast, rainy and chilly. November 13th, 2010 broke local records for highest temperature on that day in history. We got to have a lakeside wedding, outside. We had photos taken, outside. Everything happens for a reason.

From our confirmation date in July to our wedding date, we had 110 days to make all the final adjustments. Every newlywed will say this, but our wedding day was perfect. No such thing you say? It's true- there were inappropriate actions during the reception and things that on any other day would cause someone to be unhappy, but try to upset a bride on her wedding day- see what happens! Regardless of issues that arose- it was perfect.

My year has been eventful and stressful. Exciting and amazing. So much has happened, yet very little has changed and now I'm back, with some revisions. I will still try to document my life as thoroughly as possible. I want to have something to look back on and remember the little things. I want to give you something to smile and laugh. I want others to see the beauty in something simple or encourage you to look closer in your own lives. I have just removed my promise of a photo a day- don't worry it would just be photos of Mac anyway!

226- Scary Shadow, 227- Nuts, 228- G N' R, 229- Boots, 230- Baby Love, 231- Love, 232- Party, 233- Phone Home, 234- Blue, 235- Aloha, 236- Olympics

If my stairs can see their shadow, guess who else did today?? Yes, Shubenacadie Sam got scared and ran away, meaning spring is 6 more weeks away. Who is Bill Murray trying to fool? Spring is always 6 weeks from February 2nd.

Maple roasted peanuts. Yum!

Axl Rose, the legendary. In concert. It took me 40 minutes to get over the fact that he looked like Mickey Rourke in 'The Wrestler" and then I could enjoy the show. Also, not playing 'Don't Cry' did not go unnoticed.

These boots are comfortable, have great grip and go with both jeans and skirts nicely. I also got a great deal on them!

A friend is baby bound and a couple of us planned baby shower games galore. Guess the baby food being one of them. Don't they look appetizing? Poor babies who have to eat creamed corn (#1).

If I had never met Tom Selleck I would now be your regular ol' crazy cat lady. I would live in a small, yet practical home, with funky decorations, knick knacks aplenty and minimum 6 cats all sharing one litter box. I would clean it periodically and I would hope my house did not smell like cat urine, however there are no guarantees. I am a sucker for cats. Some people like big, hairy, stinky dogs. I like Mews. Here, kitty, kitty, kitty, kitty...

When I have babies, I'm going to be the world's best party thrower. That's right, all thanks to this $4.98 book that includes the balloons and confetti to do it. I promise I won't be all talk either, I WILL throw awesome parties :P

My old phone's insides fell out, so it was on to a new one. Not like I enjoy spending my money lately, but sometimes you have to do what you have to do.

Days like this make you think it's spring. Usually it's accompanied with -25 degree weather and you are shocked into reality. Winter sticks around for awhile. But where are the snow days?!?! That is the perk of Winter, and I'm still waiting...

Aloha!!

The Olympics began and all of Canada is on board, which means everywhere you look, every channel you turn on, every radio station you listen to it's OLYMPIC Central. I'd be ok with it if I cared... the opening ceremonies were impressive though! I enjoyed the whales.

216- Bamboo, 217- J & J, 218- More Planning, 219- Songs, 220- $, 221- Awww, Pumpkin, 222- Games, 223- Snow, 224- Basement, 225-Fruity Perfection

I kill all houseplants. I don't know how, but I do. Even bamboo. Maybe this is why I have rotten luck sometimes?!
This movie made me want to cook, cook, cook! I enjoyed it, good no brainer, the way I need it to be!

Another planner/checklist that I have nothing checked off of. I have things crossed off that there will be no hope of me ever doing (taking dance lessons with my partner)... I need to get on that for an October wedding huh?

Here are a sample of songs you just may hear at our wedding... 1st dance still undecided, and will probably stay a surprise, but it may just be on here ;)

Save, save, save. That's what the next few months will be. But it's all going to a good cause. Marrying then procreating. That's right, a means to an end. Some people dream of running a country. I dream of birthing a baseball team.

This has become a fan favorite. Pumpkin cake with Browned Butter Icing. I will share the secret, if you make a decision for me. Fair trade, I say.

I had a games night with one friend. We left it as a tie, in order to keep our friendship. I hope for it to happen again, next time with more people, just to liven it up a bit.

The snow that comes, just doesn't come at the right times... like 3am or 5am or 6am. Still no snow days, but I keep hoping. That little unexpected treat is a welcome surprise any day!
I don't often photograph my basement. Could be the coldness of it in the winter. It's fun though- darts, keyboard, treadmill, games, photos.

How perfect is this strawberry?!?!

207- Dream dress, 208- Ticket to FUN, 209- Planner, 210- Mornings, 211- Eh O', 212- Michael S., 213- Wishing for Summer, 214- Sand, 215- Slow Cooking

I would love a dress like this (probably in off-white, with a red or black sash). It has pockets for goodness sakes. How comfortable is that? I definitely want my dress to have pockets.
We were suppose to go to the filming of 'This Hour' Friday, but it was postponed to Monday. Good thing I'm over 16.

I have started making lists. Have I mentioned I love lists? My ideas are in here, now I have to get these ideas in the making... slowly, slowly...

Is this a welcome sight? MMM...

This is a souvenir from CBC's 'This Hour... has 22 Minutes'. We had to cheer and be hilarious. I could be an actor.

Hello, Michael S., nice to meet you. I'm sure we will be seeing a lot of each other, once I get my act together.

Winter makes everyone think of warmer, dryer days. For an inservice day at school, I planned a day at the beach. Wouldn't we all like to spend a day at work pretending it was the beach?

Speaking of the beach, these jars hold sand from A) Nova Scotia and B) Jamaica. Can you tell which is which???

Slow Cooker Cook-off at work. I own this slow cooker. It lives in the basement and has never been out of the box. I will slow cook someday.

199- Bake me a Cake, 200- Back to not Christmas, 201- Home, 202- It's There Because I'm Sober, 203- My Tree, 204- Beauty, 205-Cupcakes, 206- Martha

I cleaned the baking cupboard, I do a lot of baking so it has a lot of junk.
Christmas came down and normal life is back. It's not as pretty, but it'll do. I have some Rock Arts for sale, if anyone is interested.

I am a homebody. I enjoy being home, homey feels, homey smells, homey don't play that.

It's there because I don't drink it. If I were an alcoholic... there would be no liquor in the fridge.

My sister gave me my favorite tree in all 4 seasons for Christmas. Everywhere I go, I have a favorite tree. Work has a great one to stare at during staff meetings. NB home has this one. My house now has one on the front lawn. I didn't realize I enjoyed trees so much.

When I set out to do this blog, I wanted to pay closer attention to beauty all around me. Even when taking the photos, I miss it... but looking at them after, I get to enjoy it more.

I got 4 page-a-day calendars for Christmas... this cupcake one looked delicious today! My main man Martha (you know Rainman- "My main man, Vern."?- Funny). She makes wedding planning easy and beautiful. Thank you, dear. I appreciate it!

193- 'Ring'ing in the New Year, 194- 2010, 195- I grew up in 2009, 196- Last day of Vacation, 197- Molly Doesn't want to Work, Either, 198- Liquor

New Year's Eve was a low-key event, as it has always been as of late. I like just hanging out at home, I think because I spend so much time during the week away from home that when I can be here, I enjoy it! Plus, houses are expensive... best to make the most of your money! I thought this ring was the best photo to take for the close of 2009, it sums up how perfect the year was and shows what's in store for 2010.
Here we go... another year!
2009 was the year I grew up. I FINALLY after 11 years of not driving, got my licence. Legally I can drive. Realistically, I probably shouldn't.

Vacations are so wonderful. Cups of coffee to drag the morning along. No alarm. Early morning television and blogging. I could be a work from home person. As long as I didn't have to work until 11 and I could be done at 2. :)

Molly didn't want me to go back to work either. She said "Mommy, please stay here with me! Feed me lots and rub me while I sleep!". Sadly it was back to work for the long, cold month of January.

Over the holiday I spent some time cleaning cupboards that needed a sprucing up. One being the liquor cupboard. I am ready for a party!

184- Yearly Ornaments, 185- Believe, 186- Dixie, 187- Change for the Dress, 188- Just in Case, 189- Greetings, 190- Santa Came, 191- Guitar, 192- 5lbs

It says "Our Christmas Together 2009", there is a matching mug that says something about love. I like the way this photo turned out. I took this photo on Dec. 22, when Mr. Baseball and I began our present unwrapping... on the things you can do as an adult! We were planning on going home the 23rd, but ended up waiting until the 24th. We still separate on Christmas Eve, meeting up again after supper on Christmas Day. No biggie, I've never spent a Christmas with my fiance, in 9 Christmases. So really this ornament that I bought for him is a lie. A bold faced lie, because technically we didn't have a Christmas together in 2009, or 2008, or 2007... As Kenny and Dolly and Alabama so nicely sing, this time of year is the time to believe in Santa, hope, love and peace.
My sister's dog decided she would play Santa Claus on Christmas Eve. She did a wonderful job.

My mom is so thoughtful. This Christmas along with some surprises, I got some dough for my dress. Knowing a wedding costs a whole lot, this was a very thoughtful thing to do, and helped ease my worry about debt because of a wedding!

My sister got me a camera case for Christmas which is great because I had been carrying around my way too expensive gift to myself around in a Superstore reusable bag. It now has the protection it needs to be carried around everywhere I go.

Some festive greetings. Theme of 2009 Christmas cards- snowmen. I guess it says 'holiday' or 'winter' rather than CHRISTMAS all up in your face. People like to be politically correct. I have never seen the need. Obviously.

Santa came!!! After three Christmases (his, mine, ours), we are always spoiled with a tree full of presents.
An annual ornament from me to Tom Selleck. Last year's I do believe. Handcrafted in Atlantic Canada.

Boxing Day sales all around and I went a browsing for some of the things I didn't get on my list that I was really hoping for. #1- 5 pound weights. I needed an upgrade from the 3 pounders that I had been using to actually tone my arms. Jillian Michaels requires that you use 3-5 pound weights to assist you with her 30 day shred. Jumping jacks, push ups, squats and presses all with weights.
